The goal of the study program

The goal is to prepare students for practice of professions in which they will have to handle both standard and non-standard managerial tasks in small and middle-sized companies. At the same time, the study program is composed in such a way to enable the graduates to assert themselves also in organizations of public administration. The advantage of graduates is that their studies are not aimed at a narrow specialized sphere of one discipline but it is focused on practical knowledge necessary for use in their working lives. It is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary bachelor’s program. In addition to basic fields of economics and management, law and informatics are also taught. An extra emphasis is newly laid on economics in geology (main focus into economic geology and geology of oil and gas). An important part of the studies is teaching of foreign languages oriented towards active professional communication. 

Economic Geology and Geology of Oil and Gas specialization as a branch of the study program “Economics and Management”

Whereas geology of deposits deals with genesis and distribution of deposits of mineral resources in rock environment, its segment – economic geology – in addition to that examines economy of mining of mineral resources, especially of those of oil and gas. It covers evaluation of all reserves of deposit, their potential of workability, limits of workability and the like. Nowadays, one of the important directions of this specialization is the exact determination of value of mineral resources with respect to course of their prices in commodity markets. This information influence orientation of prospecting exploratory works in specific countries and promising localities. The course of studies of this specialization within the study program will be led in this direction. However, graduates will be acquainted with basis of other key geological disciplines. 

Possibilities of professional fulfillment after graduation from bachelor’s studies

The graduates will be able to apply their acquired knowledge in several kinds of employment in public administration and local self-government of middle and low level which are connected with both interpretation and application of legal regulations mainly from the field of administrative law and relevant legal branches. Another possibility is working as an independent officer – a specialist or consultant in regional or municipal authorities of middle-sized and bigger municipalities, which nowadays often lack specialists who can process various legal aspects which are dealt with by self-government authorities. At the same time, graduates can be employed in the Czech Republic and abroad in those state institutions and private subject which task is to use or protect mineral resources (bureaus of mines, oil fields, inspectorates of the environment) or in those which monitor the course of prices of resources as significant market commodities (mining organizations, bank institutions, stock markets of raw resources, stock companies...).
